Practical questions about PDF redaction

What the example shows, what a future tool would need to do, and what still needs a human check.

Can I redact my own PDF here?

No. This website shows a synthetic example. There is no upload, analysis or exported PDF.

Is a black rectangle enough?

A visual overlay can leave the underlying text or image intact. A redaction workflow must apply removal and verify the exported copy; a screenshot of the page is not that verification.

What about scanned documents?

Scans require image-aware handling. OCR can help locate words, but may miss handwriting, low-quality text or unusual layouts. The proposed product would still require a visual review.

Would it find every name automatically?

No such guarantee is made. Search and suggested patterns are planned aids. You would decide which zones to redact and check all pages.

Would metadata and comments be removed?

They need explicit handling, separate from visible page redaction. The future scope must state which metadata, annotations, attachments and layers it can inspect or remove.

Is redaction the same as anonymisation?

No. Context and combinations of remaining details can still identify someone. This project makes no promise of complete anonymisation or legal compliance.

Would processing happen locally or in the cloud?

The architecture has not been decided. No claim about local file processing, storage location or retention is made for the future service.

How would pricing work?

The hypothesis is €19 including VAT per month for 8 PDFs, with 1 PDF equal to 1 credit. Proposed limits are 20 pages and 10 MB per PDF. No subscription is sold and the final rules are not validated.

Can I use an existing tool instead?

Yes. Adobe Acrobat, PDF24 and Apple Preview offer documented redaction workflows. Their methods and scope differ; read the guidance and check the result before sharing.

Can I request access or leave an email?

Yes. The access form sends your professional email and visit context to BankStatementLab for PDFRedactLab. A request does not create an account, trigger a payment or provide immediate access. The example remains available without registration.
